About this map
Military aircraft that are broadcasting ADS-B or Mode S, as picked up by volunteer receivers and shared through two community networks, adsb.lol and adsb.fi. The two are merged, keeping the freshest position for each aircraft. Data refreshes about every 5 minutes.
Many military flights don't broadcast: fighters on operations, surveillance aircraft and anything sensitive are often missing. Coverage is good over the UK and Europe and patchy over sea. Faded aircraft have not reported a position for over 10 minutes.
Icon shapes come from the aircraft type: crossed rotor blades for helicopters, two sets for the Chinook, and separate shapes for fast jets, heavies (tankers, transports, AWACS), twin jets and turboprops. Red is UK, blue is other nations.
"UK" means the UK military address block (ICAO 43C000–43CFFF). Nations are worked out from ICAO address blocks and are approximate.
